KINC CRACKS SENDAK'S NUTCRACKER FOR DAYTON HUDSON

THE CHALLENGE
To showcase their Maurice Sendak-themed "Where The Gifts Are" Christmas windows, Dayton Hudson in Minneapolis turned to Kinc to deliver eighteen portals and backdrops based on Sendak's original artwork for his re-imagining of the holiday staple, The Nutcracker.

KINC COMES TO THE RESCUE

To authentically deliver Sendak's unmistakable illustratitive style, Kinc researched the original drawings and color palettes, and developed careful paint treatments to ensure that the portals preserved the sophisticated and highly imaginative quality of the originals.

Each portal featured one of four major characters from the story - Drosselmeyer, the Mouse King, the Nutcracker, or Marie and Fritz, balanced by one of several smaller images, including Christmas trees, nuts, and presents.
